Please Don’t Hurt Me / Please Hurt Me

Object / Sculpture · 2025

Two knives, two states of being.

The first is intact, gleaming, its surface untouched, engraved with the phrase “please don’t hurt me”. A plea for protection, for closeness without pain. A symbol of guarded love, sharp but whole.

The second is broken, fractured. A deep cut runs through the blade, erasing the word “don’t”. What remains is “please hurt me”. A shift born from experience, from surrendering to intimacy and the wounds it leaves behind.

The sculpture is a projection of emotional exposure. As long as love is kept at a distance the blade stays sharp, intact, close to the core self. But when one dares to go deeper, to truly open up, the form begins to splinter. The broken knife becomes a mirror of longing, longing for the very thing that caused the damage. It is the paradox of desire, seeking comfort in the pain left behind by love even if it destroys. Better to feel something, even hurt, than the absence of the one who once made you feel.
